An African man allegedly fleeing the scene of a machete attack at a Melbourne train station was chased down and bitten by a family’s dog as he ran through their backyard.
The 25-year-old was arrested shortly after being pounced on by the Staffordshire terrier in the African-crime plagued suburb of Melton South on Tuesday.
A group armed with machetes fled through suburban homes after allegedly stabbing a 17-year-old during a fight at Melton South Station just after 5pm, but only one man was apprehended.

CCTV footage from the home shows the man, who has since been released pending enquiries by transit police, running through the backyard with two dogs in pursuit.
One of the dogs, named Oslo, can be seen jumping up and biting the man on the backside as he made for the fence, before officers surround him on the other side moments later.
“Knowing that he could have possibly hidden in the backyard and the kids might have seen him but since Oslo chased him, we’re happy he kept them safe,” the homeowner told Nine News.
The 17-year-old was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with a hand injury.
The alleged stabbing comes after terrified families were forced to evacuate a food court at Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton in April when teenagers attacked each other with axes and machetes.
In January the same shopping centre was put in lockdown when rival gangs fought with machetes and a butchers knife.
In May, a gang of 15 Sudanese girls bashed a Year 7 girl at nearby Melton Secondary College, leaving her in a serious condition in hospital.
“Nothing to see here, just another African in a machete incident. Don’t you just love multicultural Australia,” said one local resident in disgust on social media after the alleged Melton South stabbing.
