An Indian taxi driver allegedly ran down a 13-year-old boy at a roundabout in a suburb in Adelaide’s south but drove off to keep working.
The teenager was allegedly hit by the taxi, a Toyota sedan, at the intersection of Kyeema Avenue and Winston Avenue in Cumberland Park at about 7.30pm on Tuesday evening.
The injured boy was treated at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and police allege the driver left the scene but returned and spoke to officers about 40 minutes later.
Video from 7News shows a police officer confronting the alleged driver at the scene, and asking why he allegedly drove away.
“You’ve had a collision with a 13-year-old kid, and you’ve driven off,” the police officer can be heard telling the alleged driver, who was wearing a Sikh turban.
“You’ve just had a crash, and you’ve ignored what you have to do after you have a crash, and you’ve gone to try and make some more money.”
The footage also shows the boy being loaded onto a stretcher by paramedics.
No charges have been laid, and police said the circumstances surrounding the incident and the actions of the driver were being investigated by officers from the Road Policing Section.
