Hundreds of nationalists have marched in Belgium demanding the mass deportation of foreigners as calls for remigration grow across Europe.
About 300 members of several different Flemish and Dutch activist groups carried flags and a banner saying “Remigration – Stop the Replacement” through the city of Antwerp on Saturday.
Right-wing Flemish nationalists Voorpost shared photos and videos of the demonstration, and said there would be another march at the same time next year but in a different city.
The rally included delegations from Flemish nationalist youth organisations Schild & Vrienden and NSV, Dutch identitarian group Geuzenbond, and Project Thule.
The demonstrators declared that the mandatory return of foreigners was essential in order to keep Flanders as the fatherland of the Flemish, React Nieuws reported.
Speeches were held after the march addressing the topic of remigration and the repression of right-wing activists across Europe.
A small group of left-wing extremist counter-protesters, one with a sign in English saying “No borders, no nations, fuck deportations”, attempted to disrupt the march but were unsuccessful.
The concept of remigration – the policy of returning immigrants to their home countries – has exploded in popularity in Europe in recent months, spearheaded by Austrian nationalist activist Martin Sellner and embraced by young AfD voters in Germany.
In July about 500 young demonstrators marched through Vienna, Austria, with a banner reading “The kids want remigration” and calling for mass deportations.
The term was then used by former US President Donald Trump in a social media post last week where he promised to “end the migrant invasion of America” and “return Kamala’s illegal migrants to their home countries (also known as remigration)”.
