A Queensland Police officer has been charged with assault after allegedly using excessive force while on duty.
The 43-year-old senior constable from the South Eastern will appear in court in relation to an alleged assault occasioning bodily harm, police said.
The alleged incident was reported to police on December 30 last year, and allegedly involved the use of excessive force towards a 20-year-old man from Regents Park.
The officer will appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 4, and has been stood down from the force.
“In keeping with our commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability, we have undertaken to inform the public when a member of the Service faces serious allegations of misconduct,” police said in a statement.
“This does not mean that the allegations against the member have been substantiated.”
The charges come just days after another Queensland Police officer was charged with possessing child exploitation material.
The male constable, 20, from the Southern Region was charged with one count of use carriage service to access child abuse material and use carriage service to transmit, make available or promote child abuse material, police said on Saturday.
