Three teenagers accused of letting out a “war cry” and attacking a 15-year-old boy with knives and machetes near his Melbourne school have appeared in court, where two required a translator.
The alleged victim had just left Alkira Secondary College in Cranbourne North at about 3.20pm on Monday July 20 when he was allegedly slashed and stabbed at Sabel Reserve Playground.
His alleged attackers, described as being of Middle Eastern appearance and wearing dark clothing and hoodies, fled the scene, and the alleged victim was rushed to hospital with wounds to his neck, back, arms and hands.
A week on from the alleged stabbing Victoria Police arrested three males – two 15-year-old boys and a 17-year-old boy, all from the Casey area – and charged them with intentionally cause serious injury with gross violence, affray, and other assault and weapons offences.
The trio, who cannot be identified due to their ages, appeared in a children’s court on Monday afternoon, but did not apply for bail, the Herald Sun reported.
Two of the accused teens required a translator, and Youth Justice is considering supervised bail for the pair, with a decision due in three weeks.
Detective Inspector Mark Patrick said last week the alleged victim was with two friends when his three alleged attackers started calling out to them and taunting them.
“It was similar to a war cry when you go into battle to create fear in their intended victims,” he said.
“It was an extremely violent [alleged] attack … they [allegedly] started chasing him to Sabel park, lashing out with their weapons, causing serious injuries to that young man.”
He said the alleged victim was not known to police, and police later confirmed the alleged attackers were not students at Alkira Secondary College.
