Police are searching for a Middle Eastern man with a thick accent who tried to lure a girl into a van in Melbourne.
Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the alleged attempted child stealing, which took place in Tullamarine on Wednesday.
Victoria Police said a 14-year-old girl was walking along Spring Street at about 5.45pm when a stranger in a white van asked her to get into his vehicle.
The girl did not comply and instead went to a nearby park where there were other people around, while the man drove west on Spring Street before doing a U-turn and travelling east along Broadmeadows Road.
The alleged victim went home and told her mother, who called police.
“The man is perceived as being Middle Eastern in appearance, about 50 years old, with a thick accent and driving a white van,” police said.
Investigators have released vision and images of a white van they believe may assist with their enquiries.
