Riot police called as 80 African teens run amok and destroy Airbnb in Melbourne

Riot police have been called in to restore order after 80 African teens trashed an Airbnb property in Melbourne and caused chaos in the streets outside.

A large party at the short-term rental on Powerscout Retreat in Cranbourne, a recently renovated home that was listed for sale, spiralled out of control on Friday night, resulting in police being called at about 11pm.

Neighbours told 7News hordes of teenagers arrived in waves throughout the night, and footage shows a massive group of youths rampaging through the streets.

“[It was] just a non-stop wave of people coming along and swarming into the house,” local resident Adam Thomson said, while Ash Vale said it was “whole carloads”.

“It wasn’t just one or two. It was all at once from everywhere,” Mr Vale said.

The pair of locals said partygoers stole items from inside the home, and that they were worried nearby properties would also be targeted.

“They’ve even pinched the TV. The TV’s gone. We watched that run down the street,” Mr Thomson said.

“They were pretty much looking for places to hide and whether they were going to start making their way into residences was a bit of a concern.”

The owner of the Airbnb house rushed to the property, but was too frightened to get out of their car.

Images taken in the morning show smashed windows and other damage done to the property, and Mr Vale said that a flyscreen even ended up on the roof.

Organisers are believed to have rented the property using fake identification.

Victoria Police confirmed the Public Order Response Team (PORT) was deployed to the property along with other units, and said the home was extensively damaged.

No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
