A former senior police officer has warned that UK-style two-tier policing is legally entrenched in Australia thanks to new “hate speech” laws, which he said was “dangerous” for White Aussies in particular.
Ex-Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent David Craig made the comments while discussing the murder of British man Henry Nowak, who died in handcuffs after being stabbed by a Sikh because police believed his killer’s claims he had been racially abused.
Bodycam footage showed officers dismissing Henry when he repeatedly told them he had been stabbed and couldn’t breathe, and his death sparked nationwide and global outrage over Britain’s two-tier justice system.

Mr Craig said in a video posted on social media that “reverse racism is racism”, and that it “officially exists in UK policing policy, and now it’s got a legal foothold in Australia”.
He then referred to a British anti-racism document from the National Police Chiefs’ Council which said that arresting police should consider the “circumstances and race of a person” and that “equality does not mean treating everyone the same or being colourblind”.
“Now, here in Australia, Victoria’s new hate speech laws have been amended to require the police, prosecutors, and the courts to consider social, historical and cultural context of alleged vilification,” he said.
“So before arresting a person for hate speech, police should consider if the suspect comes from a community or a culture that has been vilified previously.
“In my opinion, this replicates the UK’s two-tier policing approach and sets a dangerous precedent for Australians, particularly White Australians who may not have that cultural claim of previous vilification.”
Mr Craig added that police shouldn’t have to weigh up factors like race and culture while dealing with fast-moving situations.
“The Victorian amendments to the hate speech laws mean that in exactly the same circumstances, there will be a different policing outcome depending on the race and culture of the people involved. That doesn’t sound like equality to me,” he said.
Victoria’s “Anti-vilification and Social Cohesion” legislation, which passed parliament in April last year, requires police and prosecutors to take into account social, cultural and historical circumstances when making decisions about prosecutions.
The section, which was pushed by the far-left Greens party and accepted by Labor has been dubbed the “Sam Kerr clause” in reference to the homosexual half-Indian soccer player being cleared of vilifying a White police officer in London, and proponents said at the time it was designed to stop White Australians from being able to make vilification claims against minority groups.
