A Bangladeshi immigrant has allegedly murdered his two autistic sons and his wife at their home in southwest Sydney.

MD Shaman Ahamed, 47, is accused of stabbing the young boys, aged 5 and 12, to death in a downstairs bedroom and then killing his wife, 46, in the garage of their house in Campbelltown on Monday night.

He was charged with three counts of murder and did not apply for bail when his case was heard on court on Tuesday, and will remain in custody until July.

NSW Police seized several items from the home that were believed to have been used in the murders, which were described as “particularly violent”, with Ahamed’s wife suffering fatal injuries to her neck.

The father, who allegedly called Triple-Zero on himself, was the full-time carer for his sons, who were non-verbal and had severe learning disabilities, while the mother worked full-time, 9News reported.

The family came to Australia from Bangladesh about a decade ago, and Ahamed was not known to police.

Police will allege Ahamed planned the murder after reading a news article in January about two autistic children who were murdered in Perth, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Police will also allege Ahamed developed depression after recovering from cancer.

Ahamed’s lawyer,  Jawad Hosain from Blackridge Law, said it was a “very tragic set of circumstances”, and that his client was distraught.

‘We don’t wish to comment on the proceedings, my client enjoys the right to the presumption of innocence,’ he said outside court.
