A young woman has been repeatedly stabbed, dragged along the street by the hair, and stomped on by a gang of other African females in Melbourne.
Horrific footage shows the woman being attacked by a large group, many armed with kitchen knives, at Robert Bruce Reserve on Gould Street in the suburb of Deer Park, in the city’s west, at about 7.15pm on Wednesday night.
The attackers can be seen stabbing, punching and kicking the victim as she lies on the ground, jumping on her head, and stomping on her during the four-minute clip.
Graphic content warning:
Victoria Police said the victim and another woman, 20, are believed to have turned up at the scene as a result of an online feud before they were set upon, leaving the 18-year-old with six stab wounds to her upper body.
She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains in a stable condition, and has been speaking with police. The second woman was also assaulted but did not require hospitalisation.
Detective Acting Sergeant Ali Samie said on Thursday it was fortunate that the victim was not killed.
“I found that very hard to watch, particularly seeing the victim be kicked to the head while she’s on all fours on the ground, and then one of the offenders has jumped on her head, that was very distressing and very hard for me to watch,” he said.
“It’s very disheartening that humans can do this to each other. It’s outrageous that youths are out there wielding these knives, stabbing people. It only takes a millimetre, and we’re talking about a homicide.
“It’s sad that youths are doing this, and like I said, their lives could be very easily cut short by one silly mistake.”
Kitchen knives and ripped-open packaging were found at the scene by 7News reporters on Thursday morning.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
