‘Hidden gem’ scenic lookout in country Victoria swamped after viral video

A picturesque scenic lookout in country Victoria has been swamped by tourists after going viral on social media.

Milky Way Point in Strath Creek, about an hour north of Melbourne, featured in a video posted by an account called wanderfulvibes that was viewed hundreds of thousands of times on TikTok and Instagram last week.

The lookout has since been overrun by visitors, and a man named Saikrishna Chowbary shared a clip titled “reel vs real” on Sunday showing crowds of people, mainly of Indian and Chinese appearance, thronging the site, and dozens of cars parked nearby.

“Hidden gem in Victoria,” he wrote with laughing and crying emojis.

“Caution if you’re visiting this spot.”

Many Aussies responded to the video with anger, and said the situation was similar all over the state.

“Yep, another Victorian location that will now be a dumping ground for the third worlders, and left for the locals to pick up,” wrote one man.

“Go for a drive in Gippsland and this is just the average view,” a woman chimed in.

“When I first visited this spot eight years ago nobody knew about it,” wrote another Aussie.

“Looks like in Kerala,” wrote an Indian man.

“Is this India?” asked another.

Earlier this year a street in Gerringong, south of Sydney, was also discovered by social media influencers, leading to the arrival of busloads of visitors and infuriating locals, who complained about traffic, noise, and trespassing.
