Police are hunting a group of machete-wielding men over a series of violent crimes in Sydney’s west, including a home invasion and a knife-point carjacking that left two young men with serious injuries.
NSW Police released footage of a group of men, described as being of Middle Eastern appearance and in their 20s, who were caught on CCTV during two alleged incidents in the immigrant-dominated suburbs of Merrylands and Strathfield earlier this month.
Police said four men armed with machetes and a firearm broke into a home on Fairmount Street, Merrylands, at about 8.50pm on June 7, assaulted a 22-year-old man inside, stole cash and fled.
The victim was treated for a serious hand injury and taken to hospital.

Then at about 2am on June 10, five people broke into a business on Mainline Road, Strathfield, but were disturbed by a security guard and fled on foot.
A week later an 18-year-old man was approached by two men while in his Toyota ute on Dartbrook Road, Auburn, threatened with a knife, and forced out of his vehicle.
The ute owner was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and police spotted the stolen car in Merrylands and pursued it through Wentworthville.
The pursuit ended when the driver reversed into a police vehicle, and the ute was later found abandoned at Bents Basin Road, Wallacia.
Police said on Friday they believe all three incidents are linked, and said the suspects were last seen wearing hooded jerseys, trackpants or shorts, and masks.
Police are also seeking a silver Subaru sedan seen in the Wentworthville area around the time of the carjacking.
The appeal comes amid a spate of similar alleged incidents in Sydney’s western suburbs, including a home invasion in Greenacre on June 6 where a 23-year-old man’s hand was severed with a machete and cash was stolen, and an alleged machete attack in Lidcombe on June 23.
