A rogue truck driver has allegedly been caught with drugs, weapons and a device to override the speed limiter on his vehicle after testing positive to methamphetamine in South Australia.
The 39-year-old from Victoria was behind the wheel of a semi-trailer when he was stopped on the Prince Highway at Tailem Bend while en route to Melbourne just before 6pm on Tuesday evening.
South Australia Police conducting heavy vehicle compliance checks found he was disqualified from driving, and he then returned a positive roadside drug test for meth and failed to produce a work diary as required.
During a search of his truck officers allegedly found two Taser-like electronic stun guns, one capable of firing projectiles, knuckle dusters, prescription stimulants, cannabis, methamphetamine, and a radar detector.
Police also confiscated a collection of new and used “sweet puff” brand ice pipes.
His vehicle was also fitted with a “speed limiter override device”, controlled via a concealed switch, police said.
He was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, possessing dangerous articles, possessing a prohibited weapon and possession of a drug of dependence, but released on bail to appear in court on August 3.
The man’s driving disqualification was also extended by three months.
