Aussie truckies explode at Indian driver over dangerous turn

Two-lane rural highway with a large white semi-trailer in the left lane ahead of a white pickup, and a white SUV approaching from behind on the near lane.

Aussie truck drivers have unleased at Indian immigrant driving habits after seeing footage of a heavy vehicle making a dangerous turn in front of oncoming traffic in rural South Australia.

The clip, posted on popular Facebook page Road Trains Australia, shows a B-double turning in front of a B-triple which is closely followed by a ute, and was filmed by dashcam from inside another truck a safe distance behind.

The dashcam driver spots the turn and says on his CB radio “what the f*** are you doing you idiot?” to which the other driver responds in an Indian language or with an unintelligible Indian accent, and the first man says “are you for real, dickhead?”

The other driver then appears to abuse him in a mix of English and his native language.

“That’s going to your boss, dickhead,” the dashcam driver replies, and the immigrant driver responds with more heavily accented abuse.

“Happened Anzac Day (time is correct on clip) westbound past Sundrop Windfarm east Port Augusta.. we were oversized behind a B trip… I’ll let you be the judge,” the driver wrote in the caption to the video.

Incensed truckies responded to the video with anger, with some saying similar behaviour had become common on Australian roads, and others writing it had forced their retirement.

“Not the first time he has done it, prick has done it to me too. Glad it’s finally caught on camera,” said a driver who claimed to have seen the offender before.

“I’m so very glad I’m retired, f*** that, it’s just way too dangerous on the road now, they’re not even steering wheel attendants,” wrote one Aussie.

“Same, they tried to kill me too many times, I just hung the keys up for the last time 12 months ago because of this reason,” said a second in response.

“And that’s exactly why my husband stays local now. Too many F-wits and near misses. Don’t get him started on the lack of credentials,” said another commenter.

Others wrote “Happens all the time now”, “No different in the city. They just wave at you and smile or abuse you for using the horn”, and “We have to share the roads with these muppets”.

Another referred to a recent ABC News story featuring Indian truck drivers who claimed they were being targeted by racist Australians on the CB radio system.

“Wasn’t there a news report not four weeks ago talking about how the Indians are treated out on the road in this industry… here’s a prime example of one clearly doing the wrong thing and abusing everyone else like they messed up,” he wrote.

“You don’t see me on 7News saying that I’m spoken to like crap on the daily from a certain other race.”

The comments come amid ongoing concerns in the transport industry about an influx of unqualified or unsafe foreign drivers, mainly from India, causing chaos on Australian roads, sparking calls for a crackdown.

Last month the Australia Border Force launched a nationwide crackdown on immigration-related misconduct, resulting in arrests of illegal immigrant drivers, while five businesses were caught employing illegal immigrants or workers without the correct visas.
