Australians have reacted with outrage at a photo of a Melbourne train station display containing five basic spelling and grammatical errors.
A photo of the display at Footscray Station, which read “Free Travel Untill Sunday 31st off May across victoria”, was posted by Fake Metro Trains on X on Sunday pointing out the misspelling of “until”, the use of “off” instead of “of”, and the failure to capitalise Victoria.
The words “travel” and “until” were also wrongly capitalised.

The post sparked debate online, with many blaming mass immigration, Melbourne’s large non-English speaking population, and the state’s school system, while others mocked the government’s “Victoria the Education State” slogan.
“This is what happens when you import the third world,” said one commenter, while another shared the post with the caption “Third World Australia”.
“We are not prioritising reading, writing, spelling and maths at school. This is the outcome,” wrote an Aussie woman.
“I don’t understand, first you have the person who wrote it, then the person who approved it, the person/people who printed it and then those that put it up and no-one pointed the errors out? Now that’s a worry!! And it’s everywhere!! On our roadworks ‘thank you for your patients’,” said another Victorian.
Others wrote “To be fair, English is not the first language for most Victorians” and “Ah yes, the ‘Education State’ strikes again”.
