Four 15-year-old boys have been attacked by a machete-wielding gangs in Melbourne, in separate incidents amid outrage over a shocking inner city stabbing caught on CCTV on New Year’s Eve.
Just a day before the Carlton attack, where seven hooded and masked African gang members hacked and stabbed two men on Lygon Street in Carlton, two 15-year-old boys were stabbed at a reserve on Garretty Road in Caroline Springs, in the city’s west, where a large group of youths were gathered.
Both were taken to hospital with a non-life threatening injuries on Tuesday night, and police believe the offenders fled the scene before they arrived. One boy suffered upper body injuries and was in a serious but stable condition, and the other was in a stable condition, 3AW reported.

Then at 1.30am on Thursday, hours after the Carlton incident, another two 15-year-old boys were set upon by a gang in Pakenham in the city’s southeast.
Police said the pair were walking along Havana Parade when a car pulled up beside them and two men with machetes got out, attacking both boys. One was treated for a minor stab wound while the other was unharmed, the Cranbourne Leader reported.
An 20-year-old from Heidelberg West and an 18-year-old from NSW were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the Carlton attack, which police believe was “targeted”.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the two men being set upon by the gang, who were armed with machetes and knives and fled in vehicles.
No arrests have been made over any of the machete attacks, which come after the Labor state government banned the weapons and controversially installed machete amnesty bins at a cost of $13 million, sparking global ridicule.
The ban was sparked by a series of African and other ethnic gang attacks throughout Melbourne in 2025, including an alleged incident at Northland Shopping Centre.
