Male pretending to be female wins World’s Strongest Woman title

A male who claims to be a female has won the World’s Strongest Woman title at the Strongman Games, sparking outrage from other competitors and fans.

Jammie Booker, who describes himself as a “pro strongwoman” with “she/her” pronouns on Instagram, won the event in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday after overtaking frontrunner Andrea Thompson in the final event.

Video of the awards ceremony shows Thompson appearing to say “this is bullshit, can we go?” while Booker holds up his trophy, and many of her supporters have posted on social media calling her the real winner.

Thompson’s coach Laurence Shahlaei, a Strongman champion himself, wrote on Instagram: “A huge congratulations to my client but more importantly, my very good friend Andrea Thompson for winning the World’s Strongest Woman 2025.”

“This win hasn’t come without controversy, but I want to make it very clear that while I support and applaud people for being who they want to be, sport is sport and the women’s classes exist for a reason.”

Three-time World’s Strongest Woman Rebecca Roberts also addressed the controversy on Instagram, posting an image reading “protect women’s sports” and claiming that no one, not even the organisers, knew Booker was a man.

“I cannot stay silent about something that threatens the fairness and future of women’s strength sports,” she wrote.

“People born male should not be competing in the women’s category.

“What happened this weekend wasn’t transparent. None of us knew. Not even the organisers knew. And when fairness is taken by surprise, trust in the sport begins to crack.”

Other athletes made similar posts and comments, including another former World’s Strongest Man winner, Mitchell Hooper, who said: “Congratulations to Andrea Thompson on a champion’s performance this weekend at World’s Strongest Woman.”

Booker, who has previously appeared on adult websites under the name “Jammie Jay”, has not addressed the controversy, but posted a video thanking her coach, training partners and the event organisers.
