Crazed African arrested over alleged knife rampage at Queensland shopping centre

An African man has been charged with 12 offences after allegedly terrorising customers and staff with a knife at a shopping centre in Logan, south of Brisbane, on Sunday.

Musika Claude Ilongo, 22, allegedly threatened shoppers with a knife at Logan Central at about 10.40am before butcher shop workers intervened and help chase him from the centre, with disturbing video showing a shirtless man throwing chairs.

He was then chased from the centre by police and a security guard and arrested nearby, with footage obtained by 7 News showing him tell police he doesn’t know where the knife is, and claiming they are going to break his hand.

Ilongo, who lives in Redbank Plains, was later charged with four counts of common assault in a public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance, two counts of threats and one count of going armed to cause fear.

He was refused bail in Beenleigh Local Court on Monday, after the court was told he may have had a psychotic episode.

Ilongo’s lawyer told the court his client intends to fight the charges and will argue he acted in self-defence.
