A patriotic activist has appealed to the Trump administration to push back against Australia’s “hate speech” laws and undemocratic political party bans, and warned about a “rising China”.
Hugo Lennon, a right-wing influencer who goes by Auspill online, visited the US Embassy on Wednesday where he recorded a video which he called an “urgent message for President Trump” and warned the left-wing Labor government was attacking civil liberties.
Lennon made the appeal ahead of nationwide “defend free speech” rallies planned for Sunday, with thousands of Australians expected to turn out to demand freedom of political expression, the abolition of new “hate group” laws, and an end to internet censorship.

“The crimson ties of shared blood and sacrifice unite the Australian and American people. Through our shared Anglo-Saxon heritage, and our history as brothers-in-arms, fighting the Japanese Empire in WW2 and Communist tyranny in Korea and Vietnam, Australians and Americans enjoy the most special of relationships,” he said.
“Our Anzac ancestors fought alongside you, the superpower vanguard of Western civilisation, in defence of the free world, but the so-called free world no longer feels so free.
“Convincing a new generation of Australian patriots to stand with you against a rising China will not be as simple as it was for our forebears, for what is the point of resisting communism abroad, if we already have it at home?”
Lennon went on to detail Australia’s latest speech restrictions and banning of the White Australia Party, which he called an “assault on our civil liberties and democracy itself, erasing our civilisational identity not merely though mass immigration, but through the right to speak up and democratically resist it”.
“The United States cannot afford to stand idly by and allow one of its closest allies to abolish democracy and criminalise patriotic dissent, especially not at such a critical time as this,” he said.
“Australians fought and died alongside Americans in the wars of the 20th century to keep Australia free. The political establishment here in Australia seems to have forgotten this, but I hope our American friends have not. President Trump, do not let your administration stand by and allow Australia to fall.
“There are legions of Australian patriots in the common folk of Australia who can be mobilised to take our country back by democratic means, but this is precisely what our government is building a neo-Marxist repressive apparatus to prevent, do not let them.”
Lennon shared the videos to his hundreds of thousands of social media followers, including on X, where he tagged the US State Department, the White House, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The State Department recently urged Australia and other allies to do more to combat left-wing terrorism, asked embassies to collect data on immigrant crime, and has warned about mass immigration being a threat to US alliances with Western countries.
