A teenage girl has allegedly been abducted from outside a high school and driven across Melbourne by a younger male before being rescued.
Victoria Police allege the 17-year-old was walking into Keysborough Secondary College’s Banksia campus on Janine Road in Springvale South at about 8.30am on Friday when she was approached by her alleged kidnapper.
The male, 15, allegedly forced her into a vehicle and drove 60km to a home on Jezebel Way in Tarneit in the city’s west before officers from the Special Operations Group arrested him at about 12pm.
The girl was taken to hospital in a stable condition, Ambulance Victoria said.
Police believe the teenagers were known to each other.
The alleged kidnapper was charged with abduction and appeared in a children’s court on Saturday.
The court heard the teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, was out on bail for other alleged offences when he allegedly carried out the abduction, The Age reported.
His lawyer asked for the revocation of the teenager’s bail to be delayed, but a magistrate said: “In my view, it’s appropriate, given the seriousness of the charge before the court, that bail be revoked.”
The teenager then gave a thumbs up when the magistrate told him he would remain in custody until his next court appearance on July 6, and his lawyer requested treatment from a custody nurse for an injury and mental health issues.
