A missing driver has been found after a seven-truck crash caused a massive explosion and fire and shut down the Hume Highway in New South Wales.
Fire and Rescue NSW said the road was closed in both directions and one driver was unaccounted for after the incident, which occurred just after 5am near Breadalbane in the state’s Southern Tablelands, but said in an update on Tuesday afternoon that all drivers had been found.
Two semi-trailers are believed to have collided and then slammed into five other trucks at a roadside rest stop.
NSW Ambulance treated six male drivers for minor injuries at the scene, and two were then taken to Goulburn hospital for mandatory testing.

“One truck was carrying eight tonnes of butane cans, another was transporting resin, a third contained memory foam and a fourth was packed with alcohol, fuelling the resulting fire and explosions,” FRNSW said.
A 300-metre exclusion zone was set up around the crash site and traffic was diverted through Canberra via the Federal and Barton Highways.
Seven fire trucks and about 40 firefighters were deployed to the scene, including two HAZMAT vehicles, while Police, Ambulance, Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Traffic Management crews were also involved in the emergency operation.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is now underway.
