Two Middle Eastern men have been charged over a horror alleged kidnapping attempt in Sydney’s west where a woman was attacked while changing a tyre.
NSW Police allege Saer Elcharr, 24, and Mohammed Thahirdeen, 22, waited for their alleged victim, a 27-year-old woman from Greenacre, at a shopping centre in Liverpool on Tuesday afternoon.
The pair then allegedly followed her to Browne Parade, Warwick Farm, where she stopped to change a flat tyre, and allegedly threatened her with a knife and tried to drag her towards a Kia SUV, but members of the public intervened and the men allegedly fled in the SUV at about 2.30pm.
Police are now investigating whether the woman’s tyres had been tampered with to cause her pull over.
The woman suffered facial and leg injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
At about 4pm on Tuesday police arrested Elcharr on West Street in Auburn, and Thahirdeen on the riverbank of Duck Creek, Auburn, and both were taken to Granville Police Station.
Both were charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and aggravated robbery and use corporal violence and refused bail, but did not appear when their cases were heard in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
NSW Police Acting Inspector Andrew Sweeney said the woman did not know her alleged attackers.
“It appears that she is an innocent party in this,” he said.
“Obviously, it’s a very scary incident. We do believe it is a targeted attack.”
