African, 30, sexually assaults girl, 14, after forcing her into public toilet in Melbourne

An African man has admitted sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl for 30 minutes after locking her in a public toilet cubicle in St Kilda, Melbourne.

Mostaf Abdirahman Ali, 30, faced the County Court of Victoria on Monday after previously pleading guilty to false imprisonment, sexual assault and common law assault over the horrific January 1, 2022, sex attack.

He was remanded in custody by Judge Pardeep Tiwana, who ordered a psychological report, and ordered him to face court again on July 11, The Melbourne City News reported.

The court heard that Ali and another man had been on a two-day bender and were heavily drunk when they ran into his victim and a female friend, who were total strangers, in the city’s CBD.

They then bought a 20-pack of Vodka Cruisers and went to a park in St Kilda where Ali forced the girl to drink, tried to kiss her and touched her despite her protesting she did not want to engage in sexual activity, the court heard.

When Ali asked the girl to go for a walk with him and she refused, he grabbed her arm, forced her into a unisex public toilet cubicle and locked them inside.

He then choked and kissed his underage victim after pushing her up against a wall, and slapped her four times while sexually assaulting her.

After 30 minutes Ali let the girl go and she reported the attack to police.

Six months later Victoria Police tracked Ali down to his home in Preston where he initially claimed to be his cousin, before eventually admitting who he was while at Heidelberg police station.

He was released from custody and was then arrested in NSW in May 2023 and extradited back to Victoria.
