A male Indian cricketer who claims to be a “transgender” woman has been cleared to play in women’s leagues in Australia by the sport’s ultra-woke governing body.
Anaya Bangar, 25, who had genital-mutilating “sex change” surgery in Thailand in May, was approved under Cricket Australia’s Inclusion of Transgender and Gender Diverse Players in Elite Cricket Policy.
Bangar, the son of former Indian cricketer and batting coach Sanjay Bangar, is now eligible to play in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) from March 2027, as well as in Premier Cricket and women’s community cricket across the country immediately.
He said Cricket Australia made the decision after assessing his medical records, blood tests, surgery documents and a research report from Manchester Metropolitan University’s Institute of Sport, but will still be required to show low testosterone levels to play in the WBBL, The Times of India reported.
“My understanding from Cricket Australia’s clearance is that my eligibility for elite women’s cricket from March 2027 remains subject to the applicable policy requirements, including a blood test assessment at the same time,” he said.
“If that March 2027 test confirms that I continue to meet the required testosterone criteria, I will be eligible to pursue selection for elite women’s cricket, including the Women’s Big Bash League pathway.”
Cricket Australia’s elite policy requires a serum testosterone concentration below 10 nanomoles per litre for at least 12 months.
Bangar, who previously represented Mumbai at the under-19 level, originally wanted to compete in women’s cricket in India, but received no response when she wrote to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) asking whether males who claimed to be females could compete.
He has previously posted on social media about being getting “breast augmentation” surgery, having his Adam’s apple removed, and having his penis replaced with an artificial vagina.
Cricket Australia’s decision comes amid anger at the Australian Football League for allowing male players who claims to be “transgender” to play in women’s leagues.
