One of the most pressing problems facing anyone who is not a leftist is the simple question of how to make a living. Indeed, the ability to hold down a white collar job has effectively become dependent on holding liberal or left-wing opinions, with a lifetime of unemployment and social ostracism awaiting those who fall afoul of Australia’s new progressive establishment.
An emblematic example of this was seen last week when a primary school principal was driven from her job for opposing the LGBT ideology that was being foisted on the school’s children. In this case, Janelle Rowe, a principal at an ACT primary school and long-time teacher, was forced out of her role after she refused to take part in the school’s Wear It Purple Day event.
Wear it Purple Day, for the uninformed, is a newly prominent occurrence within schools and the corporate sector that was created to support “LGBTQIA+SB young people”. Ms Rowe, however, objected to exposing children to such ideas, stating that the event is “not a harmless dress-up day”, but a highly ideological occasion which “requires teachers to explain what these lifestyles are about to children”, and that she didn’t “feel it’s the place of schools to be talking about sexualised issues with infants and primary students”.
All that is correct. Yet Rowe was still hauled before her superiors, reprimanded and later resigned after half the staff at the school said they would quit if Rowe refused to take part in the day, and if she failed “to win the confidence back” of her colleagues. Rowe stood firm, and as she later told The Daily Telegraph, she was effectively then “forced to resign”.
Yet Rowe is far from the first person to be thrown on the unemployment heap for transgressing our new progressive pieties. In 2019, Australian rugby star and devout Christian Israel Folau had his contract torn up by Rugby Australia after making religion-based criticisms of homosexuals on social media. In 2022 in Ireland, another devout Christian in high-school teacher Enoch Burke was fired for refusing to refer to a “transitioning” student with the pronoun “they”.
The main reason all these firings are now occurring is that it is simply illegal not to do so. As an assortment of laws across the West – from the American Civil Rights Act through to the Australian Sex Discrimination Act – now stipulate, a panoply of traditionally conservative behaviour and belief has been rendered illegal under the aegis of discrimination.
In fact, another famed example of this came last week with the case of Sall Grover. Grover, for the unaware, is an Australian entrepreneur and women’s rights advocate who has risen to prominence via a legal battle that began in 2022 when a successful discrimination complaint was made against her by a Roxanne Tickle (a man who claims to be a woman) after Grover removed Tickle from her Giggle for Girls app for being male.
Tickle’s initial win was followed by a series of legal appeals that culminated in Grover learning last week that the High Court would not hear her latest appeal, leaving her with no further legal chance of overturning the ruling and an expense bill that includes tens of thousands of dollars in damages and other related legal costs.
Yet Tickle’s victory is an historical anomaly. It came directly out of changes made to the Sex Discrimination Act by Australia’s left-wing Labor government in 2013. Under these amendments, sex discrimination suddenly became based around “sexual orientation, gender identity and intersex status” and not on underlying dimorphic gender. Cue then Tickle’s win, Grover’s failed appeals and the current farcical state of Australia’s legal system and wider society.
As things now stand in Australia, therefore, gender as a legal construct trumps gender as a natural biological reality, with the female half of the Australian population subject to male encroachment in women’s spaces such as female toilets, change rooms and sporting competitions, and the obvious danger to women that this entails.
Indeed, this danger has already occurred. Earlier this year a female prisoner was sexually assaulted by a “transgender” male inmate at Tarrengower female prison in Victoria in 2022, with the Victorian government later found to have attempted to cover up the matter via a secret payment to the affected woman.
Yet it is not only Grover and the anti-trans activists who find themselves on the wrong side of the leftist-progressives that now dominate our country. Entire industries and sectors of Australian society are now off limits to anyone who is not hyper-progressive or otherwise left-wing.
One of the most obvious is education. Indeed, the aforementioned cases of the two fired teachers is now commonplace in an industry that is almost exclusively left-liberal. To take America as an example, a 2023 study showed that since the 1960s the percentage of conservative faculty on American campuses has shrunk from over a third to around 10% of the total. Those identifying as “liberal” or “far left”, however, have increased to almost two-thirds of the American professoriate.
In fields such as literature and philosophy it is worse still, with right-leaning professors in these areas forming less than 5% of each field. So dominant are leftists in American academia, the authors of the study speak of a new “left-leaning supermajority” that “is responsible for rampant discrimination against non-left job seekers” which is only “likely to worsen”.
In other words, if you’re a conservative – and especially a White male one – you have almost no chance of getting a job in the American academy. This is, of course, what we find, with another study showing that among political science PhDs in America, White males, both liberal and conservative, were about half as likely to land a professorship as women and non-White men.
This is further echoed among American university students, with a 2024 Georgetown paper finding that the “enrollment of White undergraduate students [had] fallen more than that of any other racial group”, with the percentage of White undergraduate enrolments on American campuses dropping more than 20% in the decade to 2022.
Australia, too, has similar trends. In fact, the recent case of the right-leaning Ramsay Centre – effectively barred from establishing itself on a number of Aussie campuses due to its conservative proclivities – is perhaps the most egregious proof yet of the complete capture of Australia’s universities by left-liberals, Marxists and other associated cosmopolitan progressives.
Yet the universities are not the only area that has become closed to conservatives. Even traditionally right-leaning sectors such as sport have become hostile to non-progressives. Take the AFL. Over the last decade or so the league has become an almost entirely left-liberal entity. Among the initiatives launched by the league are an annual Pride game involving the Sydney Swans, the creation of a professional women’s league, and a planned AFL exhibition match in India.
At the same time the AFL has suspended an unprecedented number of players for so-called homophobic remarks and heavily promoted the league’s first openly bisexual player in Mitch Brown. The AFL even made its players “take the knee” back in 2020 for the Black Lives Matter movement and the deceased violent criminal and drug-addict George Floyd.
Anything vaguely “right-wing” or traditional, however, has been shunned by the AFL entirely. The recent firing of four-time premiership coach Alastair Clarkson by North Melbourne, for instance, was partly attributed to Clarkson’s “cultural behaviour” (i.e. his lack of leftism). Even the players and their partners are following suit, with the girlfriend of Collingwood captain Darcy Moore announcing that she will boycott this year’s Brownlow Medal night as it “doesn’t align” with her values.
Other sports are much the same. The Australian Open tennis now has a Glam Slam event for LGBT patrons and “gender-neutral” toilets. Even the NRL has tried its own “Pride round”, with the Manly Sea Eagles appearing in rainbow jerseys for a match in July 2022.
Indeed, a number of global trends confirm the fact that more and more areas of life are out of bounds for those seen as not sufficiently progressive. Last month in America, for instance, statistics revealed that of all the jobs created in the nation’s economy, 98% of them went to women. American men, in essence, were erased from the nation’s job market.
This sadly should not be a surprise. As a viral essay by Jacob Savage illustrated late last year, a generation of White American men has essentially been purged from the American job market and wider economy. As Savage writes, White men in America are increasingly being eliminated from the arts, academia and a range of other industries that they used to dominate.
Here, for instance, are a few examples from the essay. The composition of editorial staff at The Atlantic magazine went from 53% male and 89% White in 2013 to 36% male and 66% White in 2024. The proportion of White men in tenured positions in the humanities at Harvard fell from 39% in 2014 to 18% in 2023. The proportion of White men employed as entry-level TV writers fell from 48% in 2011 to 11% in 2024.
Australia has much the same trends. Indeed, as I wrote in a previous piece, men are now a minority of Australian university enrolments, graduates and our federal government cabinet. Meanwhile, White Australians, are being pushed out of cities like Sydney by a wave of incoming migrants.
The simple fact is that a growing number of normal, non-extreme Australians are finding themselves on the wrong side of a left-liberal ruling class that completely dominates our country. Females wanting to conserve women’s rights, conservative Christians, and straight White men in general are increasing being excluded from employment and wider Australian society.
This is obviously something that we should not have to endure. Ideally, we can soon find our way back to a society where normal Australians are not forced out of their jobs for objecting to seeing men in women’s toilets or for refusing to teach children about Wear it Purple Day.
