Aussies hang ‘fire the liar’ banners over highways amid anger at PM

“Fire the liar” banners have started appearing over highways as Aussies vent their anger at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over his broken Budget promises.

One banner bearing the slogan, which was used by One Nation during a fundraising drive earlier this month, was displayed from an overpass in Brisbane on Friday night alongside multiple Australian flags.

Political commentator and content creator The Dusty Bogan shared a video of the banner being put up, and said it was greeted with honks from passing cars.

He told Noticer News the idea was suggested while he and a group of friends were enjoying a pub meal, and that the reason they decided to display the banner was “pretty simple”.

“A lot of us reckon the Albanese Government has taken the country in the wrong direction, and the ‘fire the liar’ banner reflects that. It’s our way of having our say,” he said.

He also said his group was trying to make flying the Australian flag more popular.

“The Aussie flags are a big part of what we’re about. We reckon Australians should be proud to fly the flag – at home, at work, at community events, wherever they can,” he said.

“We always take a few flags with us because that’s who we are. We want to see more people showing a bit of pride in the country and getting the Aussie flag back out there.”

One Nation’s Fire the Liar campaign focused on Mr Albanese’s changes to negative gearing and the capital gains tax discounts after promising about 50 times ahead of last year’s election that he would not touch either tax break.

The fundraising drive added almost $5 million to the coffers of Pauline Hanson’s party, which is now polling ahead of Labor thanks to a post-Budget surge in support.
