Hunt for ‘tanned’ man who poured scalding hot liquid on a baby in a Brisbane park

A manhunt is underway after a man poured a hot drink onto a baby boy at a park in Brisbane‘s south, leaving the infant with serious injuries.

The nine-month-old boy was with family at Hanlon Park in Stones Corner at about 12pm on Tuesday when an unknown man approached the group and poured the scalding liquid onto him, Queensland Police said on Wednesday.

Police have released CCTV of a man who may be able to assist police with their enquiries describing him as “around 30 to 40-years-old, of a proportionate build, with tanned skin” and wearing a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.

No ethnicity description was provided by police.

The baby was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, and the Child Protection and Investigation Unit is investigating.

“CCTV shows a man running from the incident location shortly afterwards,” police said in a statement.

“Anyone who recognises the man, or who has any information that can assist investigations, is urged to contact police.”
