A Sydney judge has granted a request from an alleged paedophile, who was already out on bail despite being charged with raping a toddler, to be allowed to travel without an ankle monitor.
The 34-year-old company director, who cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, is accused of raping the child, who was aged between two and four, on two occasions between March 2024 and November last year.
He was given bail after being arrested at Surry Hills Police Station and charged with two counts of sexual intercourse with a child aged under 10, but on Wednesday appeared in the Downing Centre Local court to apply for his conditions to be loosened.
Lawyer Robert McKeon from Colman Perkins Law Group, told the court there were “issues” with his client’s bail, and asked for the removal of an electronic monitoring requirement, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The request was granted by Judge Stephen Hanley, meaning the alleged paedophile is free to travel without an ankle bracelet, although he is still required to report to police once a week, and not contact the complainant or witnesses, excluding his parents.
The case will return to court in November.
