A good Samaritan father-of-two is fighting for life after he was allegedly stabbed by teenagers he caught trying to break into a neighbour’s car in Melbourne.
Colin Sheean, 41, was riding a scooter home from a Grand Final eve party at a friend’s house at about 12.20am on Saturday when he saw the three teenagers on Govan Street, Langwarrin, and confronted them.
He was then allegedly stabbed multiple times before other neighbours ran out to help him, and he was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries, while police arrested two suspects nearby, and a third on Saturday evening.
Two 16-year-olds from the Casey area and one 17-year-old from the Frankston area, were charged with intentionally cause serious injury in the circumstances of gross violence, and intentionally cause serious injury, and were remanded in custody to face a children’s court on Sunday.
“I started walking down the driveway and heard ‘he’s got a knife’ so I went back inside to grab my hockey stick,” a neighbour who did not want to be identified told the Herald Sun.
“As he was [allegedly] stabbed, I hit one of the kids, f*cked his kneecap and sort of let them run off. I was more worried about Colin dying.
“I saw the stab wound in the back, thought it was only the one, but they [allegedly] got him in the chest as well and into the lung.”
The neighbour also said the teens allegedly left the knife, which he said looked homemade and about 30cm long, sticking in Mr Sheean’s body.
A GoFundMe set up for Mr Sheean said he underwent multiple operations and was still in a critical condition, and appealed for help supporting his two teenage girls, aged 11 and 14.
“Sadly five years ago he lost his wife and the girls lost their mum Natalie when she died from a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest. Now he is in the fight of his life and has a long journey of recovery ahead of him,” the fundraiser stated.
“He runs the family business and if he is not working there is no money coming in for the girls. He is going to be off work for a long time and there are going to be significant medical expenses so this money would be a big help for them.
“Colin is the sort of guy who would do anything for anyone. He has a heart of gold and it was no surprise that he stepped in. The last thing anyone would ever expect is to be stabbed outside their own home. His girls have already been through so much.”
