A NSW Police officer has been charged with possessing child abuse material and prohibited weapons after being arrested in Sydney.
The 22-year-old, a constable attached to the North West Metropolitan Region, was arrested in Macquarie Park on Thursday morning following an investigation by the Professional Standards Command, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Cyber Crime Squad.
The arrest came after officers investigating the alleged access of child abuse material by the man searched an address on September 10, and allegedly located and seized digital devices, a gel blaster firearm, butterfly knives, and ammunition.
The officer was taken to Ryde Police Station and charged with “use carriage service to access child abuse material”, “possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority”, “possess unauthorised pistol”, and “possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit”.
He was refused bail to face Burwood Local Court on Friday, and his employment status is under review.
