An illegal dumper has been caught after disposing of demolition waste by the side of a road in Melbourne’s north and bogging his truck while trying to drive away.
Images of the truck and a man believed to be the driver were shared on social media on Wednesday by Hume City Councillor Naim Kurt, who confirmed that the driver was now facing a large fine.
The images show an obese man of Indian subcontinental or Middle Eastern appearance sitting under a tree, a huge pile of waste nearby, and the truck stuck in the mud.
“A truck caught dumping demo waste in Oaklands Road has ended up well and truly bogged!” Mr Kurt wrote.
“Authorities are on to it, hefty fines should be in the mail shortly.
“Illegal dumping costs Hume ratepayers $5 million and locals are fed up. Let’s keep working together to Keep Hume clean!”
Mr Kurt also urged residents to deport illegal dumpers by calling “9205 2200 and press 4 to Dob in a Dumper”.
Hundreds of locals commented on the post, with many describing the incident as “instant karma”, blaming mass immigration, sharing their own photos of the bogged truck, and complaining that illegal dumping was out of control in the area.
“Needs to catch the karma bus home,” wrote one.
“And it’s not stopping there… They’re dumping again on Craigieburn Rd plus on Dryland Blvd off Mickleham Rd .. filthy scum,” another said.
“In Westal on the side of the road near centre road it is now a rubbish tip, with heaps and heaps of rubbish tipped there and a lot of offenders are from a certain country. They seem to think that it is okay to dump your rubbish so someone else can get rid of it,” another woman said.
Data released earlier this year revealed that there has been a huge increase in illegal dumping in Victoria, which is responsible for half of the country’s reports, with Melbourne’s multicultural outer suburbs the worst affected.
