A morbidly obese man who claims to be “transgender” has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother in the wealthy coastal enclave of Laguna Beach, California.
Angela Caprioli, 61, was found dead inside a home on Dunning Drive at about 11am on Monday, and police initially said the incident was believed to be domestic and suspicious.
Ms Caprioli’s son Safford Wolfson, 36, was arrested on Thursday and booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, but police are yet to reveal a motive for the alleged killing, the New York Post reported.
Wolfson describes himself as a “trans girl” on social media and has shared several TikTok videos of himself cavorting in skimpy women’s clothing, some labelled “trans male to female”, “full figured woman”, “beautiful”, “transgender pride”, and “hottie”.
In an eerie Facebook post from 2024 he wrote: “Not even my mom wants to hang out with me man… talk about lame-o!”
Neighbour Dustin Pettit told local media he saw the mother and son having a heated argument before the alleged murder, and that blinds in one of the home’s windows had been damaged at around the same time.
“I saw her outside talking with him and it seemed like a pretty hostile conversation,” he said.
“She turned around and went inside and slammed the door, like she was fed up with whatever was going on. I was like, ‘What the hell is going on here?’”
He also said that Wolfson appeared to have been living with full-time carers since moving in six to seven months earlier.
“I think he had 24-7 care, he seemed able-bodied but maybe it was more of a mental thing,” he told CBS LA.
“He was pretty mysterious. He wasn’t talking to us, he would come outside, smoke a cigarette and play some guitar.
