Lesbian ex-Victoria Police officer accused of sexual assault

A lesbian former Victoria Police officer has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting another woman while she was still on the force.

Lucy Lenius, who served as a LGBTIQ+ Liaison Officer (LLO) in Broadmeadows in Melbourne’s north, faced Sunshine Magistrates Court last month after being charged with four counts of sexual assault.

The ex-senior constable recently resigned from Victoria Police after nine years of service, and will fight the charges at a contested hearing in November, the Herald Sun reported.

Charge sheets allege she placed her hand inside the complainant’s underwear and touched her genitals “without her consent”, and grabbed her alleged victim’s buttocks and “spread them apart” in April 2022.

Earlier this year Lenius appealed in the County Court after being found guilty by a magistrate of disclosing police information by showing an ex-partner “traumatic content” she had access to.

She lost the appeal and was resentenced to a $5,000 fine, but was spared a conviction because no investigations were compromised and the offending took place in a “domestic context”.

In 2023 Lenius said in an interview with Star Weekly about her experiences as a LLO that she started her career as a Protective Services Officer at homosexual events including Melbourne’s Midsumma festival and Pride march.

“As cliché as it sounds, I have a genuine desire to help people. I took on the role of LGBTIQ+ Liaison to be an approachable police member for the community and help break the stigma,” she said.

“Being a LLO has given me the opportunity to attend LGBTIQ+ events and I have become a regular member of the Victorian Pride March.”
