A woman who claims to be “transgender” has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two men in Sydney.
Shane Hunt, 57, and his son Shane Hunt Junior, 30, suffered multiple stab wounds to the torso and arms in the alleged attack at a home in Girraween at about 3pm on Monday, and were rushed to hospital in a critical condition where they remain.
They were allegedly stabbed by Tamsin Elizabeth White, 37, also known as Tadhgin White, who appeared by video-link in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday where she was remanded in custody.
Her lawyer made no application for bail, and told the court White, who has been referred to as a “man” by NSW Police, is a “transgender individual” and requested she “receive mental health treatment”, the Parramatta Advertiser reported.
The mental health request was granted by Judge Ann Lambino, who formally denied bail. White will appear court again on May 28.
Leonie Hunt, sister of Shane Jnr, said in a GoFundMe set up to help her brother and father recover that White was her neighbour.
“Both my dad and my brother have undergone emergency surgeries, and we are still waiting to understand the full extent of their recovery and what the road ahead will look like. It’s going to be a long journey – physically, emotionally, and financially,” she wrote.
“My dad was targeted, and my brother stepped in without hesitation to protect him and they both prevented him from reaching the young children inside, who were there at the time.
“They had just been picked up from school by their grandpa – my dad, and instead they were exposed to something no child should ever have to witness. We are incredibly grateful that the children were not physically hurt and were brave getting out of danger, seeking other neighbours to call for help.”
