A senior Victoria Police officer has been charged with child sex offences over an alleged incident three years ago.
The 52-year-old officer, a leading senior constable from a specialist area, was charged following an internal investigation, police confirmed on Monday.
He was charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child aged 16 or 17 under care, supervision or authority.
The charges relate to an incident that allegedly occurred in September, 2023, when the officer was off duty.
He was charged on summons – meaning he was not arrested or required to apply for bail – to appear before a magistrates’ court at a later date.
