A Sri Lankan man has been charged with with child prostitution offences after allegedly posing as a casting agent to lure young actors in Sydney.
Police said detectives formed Strike Force Vadobal into reports a man allegedly falsified documents and posed as a casting agent for an international company, offering false TV/film opportunities in exchange for sexual activity.
Gerard Vamadevan, 57, was arrested at a home in Lewisham on Friday, where NSW Police officers seized documentation and electronic items, and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

He was then charged with six counts of “possess identification information with intention to commit”, “facilitate indictable offence”, three counts of “deal with identification information to commit”, “facilitate indictable offence”, “stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm” and “procure child for prostitution”.
Vamadevan faced court on Saturday where claimed he posted as a Disney executive for social reasons, ABC News reported.
“All I did with them [victims] was bought them coffee and shouted them dinner,” he told the court.
“I was lonely and I wanted company, I have three who remain friends.”
He asked for bail so he could get mental health support, saying his “primary trigger is solitude” and blaming drinking to “self-medicate” for committing the alleged offences, and said he would be pleading not guilty.
Magistrate Robert Cook noted Vamadevan was serving a Recognisance Release Order but granted him bail on strict conditions.
Vamadevan must report to a police station twice weekly, only access the internet for work, and only hold one mobile phone that he must grant police access to, The Daily Telegraph reported.
He will face court again next month.
