A doctor who has been suspended for more than four years for criticising Melbourne’s Covid lockdowns and warning about the risks of mRNA vaccines is now fighting to avoid being deregistered.
North Sunshine general practitioner Mark Hobart, dubbed “the doctor who got Covid right” by supporters, was accused of professional misconduct by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and had his medical licence suspended in late 2021.
But Dr Hobart denies all wrongdoing, says he acted properly and ethically, and is now raising funds to defend himself at a three-day hearing in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) against the Medical Board of Australia in April.
He has started a GiveSendGo, with funds to be received by his legal team from Paladin Lawyers, where he states “I am being prosecuted by health bureaucrats for being right about Covid.”
“During Covid we were all engaged in forecasting risk and benefit – doctors, bureaucrats, and each and every one of us,” he said.
“At this time, it was evident to me that the Covid-19 vaccines were not safe and were not effective, and I felt it my duty as a doctor to warn Australians about the risks of taking an experimental mRNA Covid-19 vaccine.
“I made public statements warning people that the vaccines were not safe and were not effective, and that Melbourne’s Covid lockdowns, the harshest in the world, were draconian and not necessary.”

Dr Hobart also shared a video on his X account on Thursday appealing for help from supporters and insisting that he always acted in the best interests of his patients.
“I got it right, the health bureaucrats did not, but that hasn’t stopped the health bureaucrats from continuing to persecute me and stopping me practicing medicine,” he said.
“At all times I was engaged in legitimate medical practice. I refused to bow to the Covid vaccine mandates that were medically wrong from the start. When bureaucrats pushed experimental shots that didn’t stop transmission and caused real harm, like myocarditis, I stood up for my patients.
“They suspended me overnight for ‘misinformation’ and ‘non-compliance’. They wanted to silence doctors who were brave enough to speak out.”
Dr Hobart went on to call the vaccine mandates a “medical disaster”, and said it was now accepted that they did not prevent transmission.
“This isn’t just about reinstating me, it’s about ensuring tyrannical mandates like this never happen again,” he said.
“We need to hold them accountable, protect medical freedom and prove that ethical doctors won’t be bullied into silence.”
