Hunt for Middle Eastern man who allegedly sexually assaulted girl, 14, on street

Detectives in Melbourne are looking for a Middle Eastern man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in broad daylight.

Victoria Police made an appeal for public assistance on Thursday over the incident, which allegedly took place in Brunswick earlier this month.

The teenage girl was waiting at traffic lights of Sydney Road and Albion Street just before 1pm on January 6 when she was approached by a male stranger who tried to start a conversation, police said.

She started to walk away from the man but he allegedly tried to kiss her and touched her inappropriately. The victim ran away and later reported the incident to police.

“The offender is perceived to be of Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his late 40s, solid build with black and grey hair and beard,” police said.

“He was wearing a blue shirt with white stripes and was eating an apple.”

Detectives have released an image and CCTV of a male they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
