Determined right-wing activists have been putting up biologically accurate stickers about “transgenderism” all over Perth, despite authorities removing them dozens of times.
The stickers, which say “trans women are real men” over the colours of the “transgender” flag, have mainly been found in parks and other public spaces in the suburb of Subiaco, but have also appeared in the inner-city and western suburbs.
The City of Subiaco told PerthNow a contractor had gone out to remove the stickers on 38 occasions since July but they kept popping up again, and said the same thing was happening in surrounding areas.
A City spokesperson said there had been a small number of reports about the stickers, but they were often removed pro-actively after being found during routine inspections.
Far-left extremists have also been trying to remove the stickers, and in June a post on Reddit complained that the stickers kept appearing in front of the local primary school, which the poster described as “incredibly problematic”.
Other leftist Reddit users expressed their frustration at repeatedly removing the stickers only to see them reappear in the same spots, and complained about seeing “straight pride” stickers in the CBD.
“I’ve seen them around for a few months unfortunately. Having the slogan on a trans flag is particularly insidious, because at first glance you think they’re supportive,” one wrote.
“Yeah I see these quite often, take them down whenever I do. They just don’t stop though,” said another.
Sam Gibbings, the CEO of far-left government-funded non-profit homosexuality advocacy group Transfolk WA, said the stickers made “trans youth” feel unsafe and “signals that their existence is up for debate”, and said whoever had put up the stickers had been “radicalised”.
