One Nation candidate calls for Castle Law after disturbing farm robbery

One Nation candidate Stuart Bonds has called for Castle Law after his farm was robbed while his family were present, saying Australians should have the right to defend their homes against criminals.

Mr Bonds, who won 41% of the vote in the NSW seat of Hunter in the May federal election, said the break-in occurred on Friday night, with thieves making off with chainsaws, work tools and his old work ute.

“I’ll give $1,000 to anyone who sees my ute and tools returned,” he wrote on social media.

“My family were home at the time. Crime in this country is out of control. We need ‘CASTLE LAW’ in place to defend our property.

“If you break into someone’s home, they should have the right to do what they need to to defend their property and their families. It’s sad that people who have worked their entire lives aren’t safe in their own homes.”

Mr Bonds went on to say “hopefully the old ute took you scumbags out on the way home” and “you idiots took my saw without the brake in it, so maybe I will get the last laugh and you’ll cut your arm off”.

Earlier this month Mr Bonds spoke at a Housing and Immigration Summit held by right-wing campaign group Australian Firebrand where One Nation senator Malcolm Roberts made a speech calling for remigration and the mass deportation of illegal immigrants.

Katter’s Australian Party deputy leader Nick Dametto, member for Hinchinbrook in Far North Queensland, has also called for Castle Law in his state and has a petition before parliament which has more than 91,000 signatures at the time of writing.

“The current self-defence laws are inadequate and force victims to second-guess their actions when faced with a split-second, life-threatening situation. Good laws should be in place to protect good people,” the petition reads.

“Introducing Castle Law in Queensland would give victims the right to use whatever force necessary to protect themselves, others within the premises and their property if faced with an intruder(s). Castle Law (or the Castle Doctrine) is a principle grounded in the fundamental right to self-defence.

“A Queenslander’s home is their castle.”
