Leftist South Australia Police employee calls Charlie Kirk assassination ‘wonderful’

A South Australia Police employee is under investigation for celebrating the assassination of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk on social media.

The left-wing worker, whose rank and role has not been confirmed, is now being investigated over the comments made on Facebook, The Advertiser reported.

The posts included a shared article about the murder of Kirk with the caption “Amongst all Gaza, Ukraine, Trump news, sometimes something wonderful happens”, and a comment saying “dude has a steady hand” with a fist emoji.

South Australia Police said in a statement: “SAPOL are aware of the social media posts, and they are now subject to an investigation under the Police Complaints and Discipline Act. No further comment will be made.”

Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, allegedly by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a leftist who was dating his “transgender” roommate.

The assassination was celebrated or mocked by a number of Australian media and entertainment establishment figures, including satire site The Chaser, and antifa-linked Crikey associate editor Cam Wilson, who said it was “fine to joke about”.

The investigation comes after a South Australia Police officer was recorded saying he wanted to bash and shoot nationalist activists during a peaceful march in Adelaide on Australia Day, over which dozens of false and politically motivated charges were laid and later withdrawn.
