African thugs sentenced over cowardly Gold Coast stabbing – one spared jail

An African thug who stabbed a man in an unprovoked knife attack on the Gold Coast will be eligible for parole in 18 months, while his co-offender has avoided jail entirely.

Ngor Ngor, 24, and Manyang Manyang, 22, who both lived in Victoria at the time of the crime and had criminal histories, faced Southport District Court last week over the stabbing of concreter Daniel Condon at Surfers Paradise on July 14 last year.

The court heard that Mr Condon, then-20, glanced in Manyang’s direction and was told to “fuck off”, sparking an argument that became a fistfight, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

Ngor, who was driving to pick Manyang up, was beckoned over by a female friend and jumped out of his car with a 20cm kitchen knife. He then stabbed Mr Condon, who was already lying on the ground, in the buttocks, causing a 15cm wound and slicing through his gluteal artery.

The pair then fled the scene, leaving Mr Condon “lying facedown in a pool of blood”, but Ngor crashed his Holden Commodore nearby, with CCTV showing four hooded men running from the car. Ngor was then caught on camera hiding the knife in bushland after Manyang helped him clean it.

Mr Condon went into haemorrhagic shock while being rushed to hospital and was in a coma for four days, followed by intensive care for another four days. He was discharged from hospital on August 1, but 11 days later was readmitted and remained there until October 16 after undergoing multiple operations.

Ngor, who was remanded in custody after being arrested due to his long criminal record and breach of a Victorian community corrections order, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and driving unlicensed, and his lawyer described the stabbing as a “grossly excessive response in defence of another”.

He was sentenced to six years’ jail and will be eligible for parole on January 14, 2026.

Manyang, who was granted bail after being arrested near the crash scene, pleaded guilty to being an accessory to grievous bodily harm after the fact and was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for 18 months.

Mr Condon said in his victim impact statement that he had lost his career and independence as a result of his injuries and that every day was full of “pain, fear and uncertainty”.

“The trust I had in the world has been shattered,” he said.

The court heard Mr Condon has been forced to give up his trade as he has no feeling in his left foot, must wear a leg brace, and can no longer drive a manual vehicle, and his mother has had to leave her job as a teacher to look after him.
