Hunt for cruel scammer who allegedly defrauded elderly man in Brisbane

An 83-year-old man has been allegedly been tricked into giving his bank card to a scammer pretending to be a bank employee who then allegedly went on a spending spree in three states.

Queensland Police said on Monday that detectives from the Financial and Cyber Crime Group were seeking community assistance to identify a man they wish to speak to in relation to their investigation into the alleged fraud.

Police said that after the elderly man was allegedly coerced into handing over the card it was then used in stores in Brisbane, southeast Queensland, Bundoora in Victoria and Tamworth in New South Wales in June last year.

Investigators have released images and CCTV, some taken in a JB Hi-fi store, of a man of Indian subcontinental appearance who may be able to assist with the investigation.

The images show the man in the same black and white sneakers, black pants and grey shirt with sunglasses hanging from the collar, while wearing either a red or a grey cap.
