We welcome submissions of original writing (such as articles, opinion pieces, and reports) and photographs from contributors. This Submissions Policy outlines the terms under which you may submit content to us.
By submitting any content, you agree to be bound by this policy, which is designed to comply with Australian copyright law and relevant international copyright frameworks.
We reserve the right to update this policy at any time. Changes will be posted on our website, and your continued submissions after such changes constitute acceptance of the updated terms.
1. Eligibility and Submission Process
Who Can Submit: Submissions are open to individuals aged 18 years or older, or to those with legal guardian consent if under 18. Organisations may submit through authorised representatives.
What We Accept: We accept original writing (e.g. news articles, features, commentaries) and photographs that are relevant to our editorial focus. No AI-generated content is accepted.
How to Submit: Email submissions to editor@noticer.news. Please let us know what name you want to story published under, and if you would like an author bio. We may accept, reject, or request revisions at our sole discretion. Submission does not guarantee publication. We aim to respond as soon as possible, but due to volume, we may not respond to all.
2. Copyright and Ownership
By submitting content, you represent and warrant that:
- You are the sole creator and owner of the copyright in the writing and/or photographs, or you have obtained all necessary rights, permissions, and licenses from third parties (e.g., co-authors, photographers, or subjects).
- The content is original and does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, including copyright, trademarks, moral rights, or rights of privacy/publicity.
- The content does not contain defamatory or unlawful material.
- For photographs, you have obtained valid model releases for identifiable individuals and property releases where required, and the images do not violate any laws.
3. Grant of License
License to Us:
Upon submission, you grant The Noticer a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, distribute, display, and create derivative works from your submitted writing and photographs in any media or format, including but not limited to the website, social media channels, newsletters, print editions, and syndication partners.
- This licence includes the right to edit, crop, resize, or otherwise alter the content for editorial purposes.
- We will attribute you as the author/photographer where practicable, unless you request anonymity. We will update your author information on request, eg. to change your author name, make your submission anonymous, or edit your author bio.
Retention of Your Rights:
You retain copyright ownership in your submitted content. The licence granted to us is non-exclusive, meaning you may submit or publish the same content elsewhere, provided it does not conflict with our usage rights and that you credit The Noticer as the original publisher.
No Payment:
Unless explicitly agreed in writing, we do not provide compensation for submissions. If your content is selected for publication, it is on a voluntary basis.
4. Indemnification and Liability
Indemnity: You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Noticer and any affiliates, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your breach of this policy, including any copyright infringement claims related to your submission.
Our Liability: We are not liable for any loss, theft, or damage to submitted content. Submissions are made at your own risk.
5. Rejection and Removal
We may reject submissions for any reason, including if they do not meet our editorial standards, contain inaccuracies, or raise legal concerns.
If published content is later found to infringe copyright or other rights, we reserve the right to remove it without notice. In such cases, you remain responsible for any resulting claims.
We usually remove submissions on request, but we reserve the right to refuse under the terms of the licence granted on submission.
6. Data and Privacy
Personal information provided with submissions will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We may use your contact details to communicate about your submission or future opportunities.
7. Governing Law
This policy is governed by the laws of Australia. Any disputes arising from submissions will be resolved in the courts of Australia. In the event of conflict with international laws, Australian law prevails to the extent permitted.
By submitting content, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to this Submissions Policy.
We may be prepared to make exceptions to some of the above, eg. we have previously removed articles due to reasonable requests from contributors, but we reserve the right to refuse under the terms of this policy.
