A teenager has been slashed with a meat cleaver, run over with his own car and stabbed in the face in a horrific attack at a Melbourne McDonald’s.
Victoria Police said on Wednesday they were looking for two males of African appearance suspected of carrying out the assault in St Kilda on Tuesday night, and one police officer described them as acting like “rabid dogs”.
A white Kia rental car pulled into the carpark of the McDonald’s on The Esplanade just after 10pm when a stolen grey Mazda crashed into it from behind near the drive-thru, and one of the male occupants slashed the 17-year-old Kia passenger with a weapon, police said.
The Kia left the carpark and and followed by the Mazda towards Acland Street, then down St Leonards Avenue where it reached a dead end, and the two males inside the Kia attempted to run away.
Those inside the Mazda then jumped into the Kia and police believe they deliberately ran down the 17-year-old, who is from the Prahran area. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A witness told The Age the three men who took the Kia ran over the 17-year-old twice, and also got out to stab the victim in the face. Two left in the Kia while the third ran off on foot.
Detective Inspector Mark Patrick said the attackers were “rabid” and the crimes were “serious”.
“The offenders have no humanity, these offenders – behaviour like dogs, rabid dogs is what I would call these behaviours,” he said.
Police said the Kia was abandoned on nearby Fitzroy Street and officers were told two male occupants of African appearance fled from the vehicle towards Beaconsfield Parade.
Uniformed officers, the Critical Incident Response Team, Dog Squad and Public Order Response Team members searched the area with assistance from the Air Wing, but no arrests were made.
