Lebanese immigrant rapes woman, 18, on beach after asking if she was an Aussie

A woman, 18, was raped in sand dunes at a NSW beach after rejecting the advances of a Lebanese immigrant who asked her if she was an Australian.

Bilal Jdid, 28, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual body harm and one count of sexually touching another person without consent over the August 2023 attack in Port Macquarie.

The woman was walking on an amphitheatre to watch women’s national soccer team The Matildas play their World Cup Semi-Final against England when Jdid came up behind her on his bike, news.com.au reported.

According to court documents Jdid asked the woman if she was Australian and if he could take a photo with her, and the victim said yes even though she felt uncomfortable, because she thought he was a tourist, she told police.

When Jdid asked her if she was married she told him she had a boyfriend, he grabbed her by the neck and repeatedly told her “just five minutes”.

The woman shouted “no, stop” but Jdid pushed her into the sand dunes, forced her head into the sand and held her down by her neck while sexually assaulting her and saying “stop, just five-minute sex”, according to agreed facts.

After Jdid let go of the woman and fled she called out for help and was assisted by three bystanders, and one drove her to the local police station. She suffered a bloody nose and face, neck, leg and wrist injuries.

Jdid was arrested two weeks later and denied raping the woman, telling police he “tried to get her phone number, but she would not give it to him”.

“They took photos and the offender admitted to kissing the victim on the cheek, and arguing with her a little, however, denied sexually assaulting the victim,” the facts state.

“When asked if he put his hand underneath her top, he said ‘possibly, but nothing more than this’.”

But Jdid, who the court heard came to Australia from Lebanon in 2022, eventually pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on April 10.
