British paedo given visa while veteran awaits deportation for nationalist links

A British convicted paedophile has been released from the same Perth immigration detention centre where an army veteran is fighting deportation for giving members of a nationalist group boxing training.

The child molester, who is in his 80s and cannot be named for legal reasons, had his visa automatically cancelled after being jailed for sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl in 2024, but late last year had it reinstated by a tribunal due to his “ill health” and “very strong ties” to Australia.

Administrative Review Tribunal deputy president Simone Burford said in her decision that while the community would expect the man to be deported, he “faces significant impediments if removed, including due to his advanced age”.

The family of his victim told ABC News this week they were “horrified” by the decision, and said they had written to Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke three times to ask him to deport the paedophile in the “public interest”, only to be told the minister is “not required” to exercise his powers to cancel visas.

Mr Burke has previously used those powers to personally cancel a number of visas for political reasons, including those of South African engineer Matthew Gruter for taking part in a peaceful police-approved protest in November, Ukrainian refugee Yan Zakharin for his alleged involvement in an alleged clash with Antifa in Melbourne in December, and British army veteran Ryan Turner for associating with the now-disbanded National Socialist Network in January.

Mr Turner, who was living in Western Australia while applying for a partner visa and permanent residency, had his bridging visa cancelled without warning by Mr Burke for “failing the character test” despite only acting as a boxing coach to NSN members and not participating in any of the group’s demonstrations or committing any criminal offences.

He told Noticer News Mr Burke could easily use his powers to cancel the visas of all convicted paedophiles but chose not to, and revealed sex offenders are housed separately in a special newly built section of Yongah Hill Detention Centre where they enjoy better conditions than other detainees.

“They get yard time at 4:30 daily for an hour and we get locked in our cells, they get fed with a private kitchen area, their own medicine area, single-man rooms which are 10 times better than general population, and two giant court areas with a private gym area, but none of them use it as they’re fat,” he said.

“So essentially, you’re better off literally molesting kids – get better looked after, a private compound with your own room, full security protection then claim your life’s in danger under protection to your paedo-loving lawyer and then get out – than coach boxing in a park to ‘Nazis’.”

Mr Turner has spent more than three months, including his 30th birthday, in the run-down general population section of the facility alongside serious criminals, and has started a GiveSendGo to raise money to support his legal fight to stay in Australia.
