A man was shot dead, two teenagers were stabbed by machete-wielding thugs, a gun battle erupted outside a house, and shots were fired in a nearby suburb during a night of violence in Melbourne.
The shooting victim, who is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be Middle Eastern, was gunned down near HR Uren Reserve in Thomastown, in the city’s north, at about 7.30pm on Sunday night.
He was declared deceased at the scene, and Homicide Squad detectives are now investigating. Part of Victoria Drive was cordoned off by police, and an SES tent was set up, the Herald Sun reported.
The killing took place approximately five minutes after two teenagers were attacked by two other males armed with machetes in the suburb of Cranbourne.
Victoria Police said the victims got out of a car on the corner of Banyalla Drive and Burgan Court and were chased before being stabbed. A 17-year-old boy managed to run back to the car, which drove a short distance to Camms Road, where members of the public gave him first aid.
The second victim, a 15-year-old boy, was found with serious injuries further along the same road. Both teenagers were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Two hours later police were called to a home on Monterey Boulevard in Frankston North after reports shots had been fired at the property by a person riding a dirt bike.
Police said “shots were subsequently fired from the direction of the residence”, and are now appealing for witnesses or people with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
A second shooting incident is also being investigated in nearby Karingal.
No arrests have been made in relation to any of the incidents.
