A Chinese supermarket inside a notorious Melbourne shopping centre has been terrorised by three dark-skinned teenage thugs armed with a crowbar, a cricket bat and a machete.
The Fortune Asian Supermarket in Preston’s Northland Shopping Centre was targeted by the trio on Monday night in what the owner believes was a revenge attack.
The shaken owner, named Homer, told 9News security had removed a teenage girl earlier in the day for vandalising the store, only for her to return with two males at about 7pm.
Disturbing CCTV footage shows the armed thugs smashing up shelves and the counter with the crowbar and bat as terrified staff and customers flee the chaos.
One of the teens can be seen kicking a supermarket worker, and Homer said they tried also to hurt other staff members.
“They started smashing the shop and then our team tried to stop [them],” he said.
“When we see all the weapons, we think our lives in danger. We have no idea how to stop them.
“Everyone could have been killed because they have weapons, and we don’t.”
The three teens fled in a black car, and police are investigating.
Northland said security responded to the incident but the attackers had left by the time they had arrived, and disputed the store owner’s claim that one of the teens had a machete.
The attack comes after the same shopping centre made headlines for an African gang machete brawl that sparked protests and resulted in Victoria’s controversial machete ban being brought forward.
