Police are looking for a French national wanted on a warrant over the alleged sexual assault of a woman in a laneway in Melbourne on New Year’s Day.
Victoria Police said Melbourne Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives were appealing for public assistance locating Adam Berguiga, 22, in relation to the alleged incident in Coors Lane, Melbourne East, at about 4.30am on January 1.
“Officers have been told the victim was with friends at a nightclub for New Year’s Eve when a man helped her from the dance floor after she fell,” police said.
“It is believed the same man then sexually assaulted the woman shortly after in the laneway before he led the victim to Little Bourke Street and left the area.”
Berguiga may be driving a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan with registration UYO268, and is known to frequent the Melbourne CBD, St Kilda and Port Phillip areas.
He is described as having short dark hair with a side part, and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoody jacket, and black and white sneakers.
Investigators have released two images in the hope a member of the public may be able to provide information on Berguiga’s whereabouts.
